In order for shooters to be able to compete with their peers, IDPA competitors are divided in classifications within each division based upon their skill level. IDPA has a very quick and easy method of classifying shooters. Only currently affiliated clubs may award classifications and only current IDPA members may shoot the "Classifer" or be awarded a classification by a club.
The classification consists of 3 stages, 14 strings or courses of fire, for a total of 90 rounds. The Classifier will encompass: body armor drills, strong and weak hand shooting, tactical and emergency rloads, drawing from a holster, shooting on the move forward towards the target and shooting while moving backwards away from the target, shooting from both sides of a barricade, reloads from behind cover (wall and barrel), and shooting tactical priorities at different ranges. The classifer is performance based and allows shooters to guage their skills against the top IDPA shooter from around the world.
Classifier clarifications:
Firstly, there is no requirement to wear concealment when shooting the classifier, so from now on we should all adhere to that;
Secondly, the Blackhawk CQC and CQC Serpa is an approved holster for IDPA. This has been confirmed and if any further information is required on this, just drop me a line.
Lastly, when firing the classifier, at no time is it necessary to engage targets in tactical sequence, in other words when firing any string such as advancing, withdrawing you can double tap each of the three (3) targets. This information comes directlyfrom the IDPA headquartes and has been confirmed.
